Sizzling performances at Ulster Championships for the Mc Veighs

Whilst everyone flocked to the seaside and dusted off their buckets and spades on Sunday, the McVeighs had the chickens, goats, pigeons and dogs fed by 6am and had packed up the white wagon just as the sun was saying hello for the first time on what would be a very hot day for everyone. With the stat nav set for Donegal for the Children’s Games and Ulster U12 and U13 Championships hosted by Finn Valley AC.

Flawless Fiachna at Fab Five

On Thursday evening, the track and field Newcastle AC junior squad headed for South Belfast again for the Lagan Valley AC Fab 5 event. This was meet number three of five in the series and the club had already celebrated great success in the previous meets. However, as the sun yet again shone down upon Mary Peters Track, the Juniors brought their A game and were ready to make themselves the competitors to beat.

Binnian Doesn’t Break the Juniors Determination

All roads led to Slieve Binnian on Thursday night for the infamous Binnian To The Top, Hill and Dale Race. Race 4 of the series saw over 300 runners take to the start line at Carrick Little. The only Full Open Mountain race for the U16 squad and welcoming back a full U18 contingent after their trip to Limerick to secure themselves a place in the U20 Irish Team.

Sophie Sets the Standards in 1500m

Over the past fortnight, the Ulster Schools Athletics has been relentlessly working its way through numerous District Heats in their pursuit to bring together the best track and field athletes that the Ulster Schools has to offer.
With many of the Newcastle Junior athletes making their school teams and some excelling in disciplines they were quite new to, there was plenty to celebrate and some podium places too.
