The third race the 2011 Hill and Dale Series took place in Kilbroney Forest Park, similar to last year conditions were dry in the evening sun, perhaps a little cool with a light breeze but perfect running conditions. DES WOODS GETS THE BETTER OF TOLLYMORE FOREST

The second race in the “Up and Running” Hill and Dale race Series brought a record 219 runners (and 218 finishers) to the trails in Tollymore Forest Park, was it because of or despite of Race Director Mc Cann that we got this record turnout. With a stretch in the evenings and the sun in the sky there could be no better location for the run up to the Easter break. Continue reading

Hill and Dale 2010 Race 2

Woods wins in Tollymore 2010
On a beautiful sunny evening in Tollymore Des Woods was victorious in Race  2 of the Hill and Dale Series, with 39 seconds to spare over perennial runner-up Neil Carty. Gary Bailey was an impressive third.  Shileen O’Kane made it two wins out of two in the ladies’ category, with Anne Sandford second again.  A new record was set with 219 runners taking part in the 5.5 mile race featuring 4 climbs.  Full results and report to follow.

Costorphine AC claim maiden Hill and Dale victory as Simpson is simply the best.

David Simpson, who last competed in the Hill and Dale as a junior made a long awaited and triumphant return to the series, claiming a decisive victory at the McVeigh Classic. Despite being hotly pursued in the early stages the former Willowfield runner who now runs for Costorphine (an Edinburgh based club, founded in 1986), opened up an unbridgeable gap to record a victory by 12 seconds from Andrew Annett (first Junior) of Mourne Runners. As predicted last week, Annett is an up and coming starlet and his achievement in this race is all the more remarkable in light of the fact that he completed the Mourne Peaks five days earlier. Thursday 14th April sees the return of the increasingly popular Hill and Dale series, sponsored by Up and Running. Last year the series broke all records in terms of the number of competitors, the numbers completing the series (192) and the amount of verbals issued at the start of the races by the organisers (too many to quantify!).
