1 Million Steps for the Southern Area Hospice

September 1st is an exciting time for many children as they embark on the new school year. However, for the brother and sister team of Rónán and Aoife Grant, they had a new challenge to take on.

The duo, who are both Newcastle AC Junior athletes and attend Bunscoil Bheanna Boirche, Castlewellan in Co. Down, decided that they wanted to raise money for the Southern Area Hospice after their Great Granny had spent time there and they’d learned about how the charity relies on people to raise much needed funds to keep the service delivering such vital care.

The idea for the challenge came about at the end of the summer as they began totting up how many steps they had covered over the holidays. Continue reading

Run Forest Run Series – Tollymore

Congratulations to the Newcastle AC Juniors who took part in the Run Forest Run Series in Tollymore on Saturday 18th December.

Tom Crudgington took part in the 10k race, finishing 2nd overall in a fantastic time of 33:49.

Ciara Savage, Karim Jaidane and Aoibheann O’Gorman took part in the 5k race. Ciara finished 22nd overall, in a time of 22:30. Karim completed the course in 24:02, and finishing in 31st position. Aoibheann finished in 42nd position, in a time of 26:33.

Mourne Mountain Rescue Race

Congratulations to the Newcastle & District AC Juniors who took part in the Mourne Mountain Rescue Race in Donard Park on Saturday 20th November.

The Juniors who took part were Aoibheann O’Gorman, Tess McAleavey, Rory Corrigan, Patrick McDaid, Alea & Yasin Brannigan.

McMullan family at the NI & Ulster Uneven Age Groups XC

The McMullan family were out in force at the NI & Ulster Uneven Age Groups XC held in Stranlorlar, Donegal over the weekend.

Isla McMullan took part in the Girls Under 11 race, finishing the course in 06:52.

Emily McMullan completed the Girls Under 13 course in 09:49.

Ethan McMullan finished 20th position in the 4,500m Boys Under 17 race, in a fantastic time of 18:16.

NI & Ulster Even Age Group Championships

Newcastle AC Juniors were out in force at the NI & Ulster Even Age Group Championships on Sunday 24th October at the Billy Neill MBE Country Park.

In the U10 Girls Race, Newcastle AC Junior Lily McMurray finished 32nd position, in a time of 04:30 in the U10 Girls Race.

In the U10 Boys Race, Harry McVeigh finished 25th in 04:20, Senan Gosling in 52nd position in 04:42, and Connaire Óg McVeigh in 53rd  place, in a time of 04:43.

Mary Houston (U12 Girls) completed the course in 05:38, finishing in 68th position.

Darragh Kerr finished in 36th position in the U12 Boys Race, out of a field of 102, in a time of 04:30.

In the U14 Girls Race, Emily McMullan completed the course in 10:36.

Henry Houston placed 23rd in the U14 Boys Race, in a time of 08:00. Dáire O’Gorman finished in 84th place, in a time of 10:32.

Aoibheann O’Gorman finished 65th in the U16 Girls Race, in a time of 16:00.

In the U18 Boys Race, Tom Crudgington completed the course in 3rd place, in a time of 12:49. Ethan McMullan was 26th place, in a time of 14:44.
