59 Athletes turned out last Monday evening to enjoy a superb spread in the Toscano in Newcastle. It was a lovely opportunity for some teambuilding amongst our athletes and a chance to chat and relax. Monday night training at Shimna College is now finished for the season and will start back on Monday 12th September 2016 at 7pm. We have nearly 60 junior club members attending our end of season party in the Toscano Pizzeria at 7pm this Monday 20th June. It’s good to see such a good turnout. Meet 3 Fermus Energy Super 6 Series 2016
It was a lovely warm evening down at the Mary Peters track for three Newcastle athletes attending Meet 3 of the Firmus Energy Super 6 Series. Alex Johnston, Ciara Savage and Alana Lyons were all new to 70m Hurdles and Shot Putt events. They did extremely well for first timers at the hurdles with Alex coming in with a super time of 15.19s followed by Ciara at 17.52s and then Alana with 19.03s. Next was the Shot Putt. Keen to give it a go, Alana showed signs that this is an event that she likes and has some definite skill, throwing an impressive 4.34m and Ciara close behind throwing 3.43m. Alex did a superb job supporting her teammates. Well done girls (see attached photo).
Toscano End of Season Party
Thanks to all who have already paid their money for our end of season party in the Toscano Pizzeria on Monday 20th June at 7pm. It’s good to see so many interested and it promises to be a nice evening chatting with fellow athletes. This Monday 13th is the last opportunity to pay your £5 if you would like to attend. Many thanks to Averil for organising and collecting all monies. Averil will be outside the main door of Shimna College again this Monday night at 8pm to collect any outstanding monies. We will also be collecting donations for our coaches / volunteers – this is an opportunity to show your appreciation for all the hard work they have put into making our club such a success.
Please note – this Monday 13th is the last night of training at Shimna till September. Please keep a regular check on the Junior Events section of our website for details of any upcoming races and events.
Newcastle AC junior Eve Kenneally recently ran in the London Mini marathon. She was one of 6 from Northern Ireland in her 13 age group to qualify. The race was 3 miles which she completed in 20.45 minutes. She went with a squad of 38 athletes of different age groups as well as wheelchair participants from the North. It was an amazing experience for her and she was very proud to be wearing a Northern Ireland shirt.
It was great to see so many Newcastle junior athletes on a cold but dry evening last Thursday at the Mary Peter’s Track for the second Meet of the Firmus Energy Super 6 Series. All enjoying the excellent facilities and some trying out distances and field events for the first time. Continue reading
The Firmus Energy Super 6 is a series of athletics events taking place at the Mary Peters Track from 14th April through to 25th August. These events cater for children (& adults) from 8 years old upwards. The events are split into 5 age groups:
Minis – Must be 8 years old on day of competition and born on or after 1st Sept 2005
Under 13 – Born between 1st Sept 2003 and 31 Aug 2005
Under 15 – Born between 1st Sept 2001 and 31 Aug 2003
Under 17 – Born between 1st Sept 1999 and 31 Aug 2001
