McGrady Financial Services Junior XC Series 2015-16 Prize giving

ALL juniors, not just those that competed in the McGrady Financial Services Junior XC Series, are invited to attend a prize giving event at “The Lodge”, Castlewellan.

There will be no Junior Training on Monday 11th April due to the Presentation Evening.

Ulster Schools XC Championship 2016

Eve Kenneally Ulster XC 2016Newcastle AC Junior Eve Kenneally, representing Shimna College finished an excellent 6th at the Ulster Schools XC Championships, Minor girls under 13 age Group. The Milk IT Ulster Schools Cross Country Championship was held at Mallusk Playing Fields on Tuesday 10 Feb. The championship is also used as the Northern Ireland selection race for the London Mini Marathon.

The Virgin Money Giving Mini London Marathon is the official British Athletics three-mile road championships for young athletes aged between 11 and 17, it is held each year on the same day as the London Marathon, to inspire the next generation of athletes. Past participants of the Mini Marathon include Mo Farah and Newcastle AC’s Joanne Mills. Joanne was at Mallusk watching Eve run and was first to congratulate her on the selection and provide advise on what to expect. Eve’s race starts at 9.30am on Sunday 24th April and she will be wearing a blue tee shirt, along with all the other competitors in the under 13 Girls race. http://www.minimarathon.co.uk/en/

Shimna College had three other students taking part in the Ulster Schools, Jodie Cunningham 39TH Mini girls, Jack Quinn 54th Senior boys and Laura Greene 64th Inter girls.

Fireflys Fastest Feet 2016

Calum CopeSeven year old Newcastle AC member Calum Cope is a keen and competitive sportsman. So when Calum heard the search was on for the quickest boy in Ireland, under 9 years old, he wanted to discover how fast he actually was.
In an initiative designed to inspire children in this Olympic year, Firefly Foot and Ankle Clinic was offering two of Ireland’s fastest children, one boy and one girl, an all expenses paid trip to New York and the opportunity to compete in the 109th Millrose Games in Manhattan. The Millrose Games are recognised as one of the most prestigious indoor meets in the US athletics calendar, and Firefly’s Irish champions would get to compete against the fastest kids on the block from the Bronx, Manhattan and across New York City.
