A veritable hive of activity on Saturday 26th October awaited team Newcastle AC as we arrived for the NI and Ulster junior cross country even age group championships.  20 junior Newcastle AC athletes returned to the now familiar venue of Kilbroney Park and a great atmosphere awaited our runners.  We could see folk attempting the climbing tower, groups of walkers, lots of mountain bikers and other people out for the morning, mingling with our own hardy bunch of junior athletes.  The playground proved too much to resist for some young runners and the coaches hoped this would count towards the pre-race warm-up! Not Just Fair Weather Runners

Race 3 of the McGrady Financial Services junior cross country series took place on Sunday 13th October in sunny Tollymore Forest Park. With only 2 more races to go, the sunny weather so far may be leading people to believe that we are only fair weather runners. A Super Sunny September Saturday

Race 2 of the ever popular McGrady Financial Services junior cross country took place on Saturday 28th September in Kilbroney Park, Rostrevor.

The sunny weather had been previously booked and didn’t let us down, with sunshine reminiscent of those recent balmy summer days. Burren AC had an early start and the courses were marked, measured and indeed a written list of the different age group races and distances were provided to the registration staff. Thanks to Brian and his team. Sadly this did not deter the usual “how long is our race?” question, instead on occasion the actual route of the race was asked for. Winter is in the air

The McGrady financial services junior cross country series made a welcome return on Sunday 15th September. What looked set to be a rainy and windy day cleared as if by magic and turned into a bright clear day just in time for the first race of the new series. The new series also welcomes a new team to the completion with Dromore AC joining Newcastle, East Down and Burren.
The main emphasis this year is participation by all and like last year each and every child that took part are awarded points which are added together at the end of the series and the team with the most points will secure the team trophies for this year. The past 2 years have all went to Newcastle AC but after the results from the first set of races its all to play for this year. Continue reading →
